Cupping
Accelerating Blood Flow for Healing
Cupping/Myofascial Decompression is a safe, non-invasive modality that uses suction cups to create tissue decompression, rather than tissue compression to influence the layers of tissue below. The difference being that with cupping a patient typically remains still while the cups are applied and myofascial decompression typically includes some form of active or passive movement of the patient with the cups in place.
The goals are to increase tissue gliding and mobility while increasing blood flow to the area which accelerates tension that may not have responded well with traditional massage or stretching.
Conditions that respond well to cupping include:
- Migraine and Tension Headaches
- Upper Back and Shoulder Pain
- Low Back Pain and Sciatica
- Bursitis and Tendonitis
- IT Band, Calf, and Hamstring Tension
We use silicone cups with a "dry" method so there is no risk of burns or infections. In some cases, bruising around the treated area will occur which may last a few days to a week.
Ask your local HealthSource doctor if cupping or myofascial decompression is right for you.
